Sri Lanka has hundreds of timber processing mills like this one in Moratuwa.
The Senevirathna Mill processes hardwood for export and manufactures it's own
furniture for sale in the local and export markets. Moratuwa is regarded as
Sri Lanka's carpentry centre, and has been processing and making furniture for
generations. All these pictures were taken by one of Oxigen's corporate clients
in October, 2008. The client commented: "On the road from Colombo to Puttalam
alone I counted over 35 timber mills, all bustling hives of activity. The same
night in my hotel I watched the financial news and realised how unconnected
from the financial downturn Oxigen's projects are." The road is approximately
50 miles long! Travelling in Sri Lanka is often slowed by timber lorries, so you
have plenty of time to look...
